I Heart Last.FM

God Bless the Internet. No, really. Without the internet I wouldn’t have found other cool bloggers to turn me on to cool stuff like Last.FM. And Last.FM is too cool for words.

My “personal” radio has been churning out THE BEST PLAYLIST EVER. It’s like your favorite mix tape that keeps on going. I think my favorite part is having bands I’ve been interested in, but haven’t bought yet, turn up so I can really get a sense of what I’m missing. My “must buy this CD” list keeps growing…

DH got Audioscrobbler installed on my computer at Sudsy so when I’m there it’ll be sending info back and building my profile as well.

It’s most excellent, all this musical goodness… I’m almost cheerful today!

Oh Boy

I blame Betsy. I’ve discovered Last.FM and it is awe-inspiring. My username is oregonclaire, if anyone is interested in my particular musical tastes… although I’m just getting started, so I guess my list is thin…

Mmm, music.

Updated to add: this is the coolest thing since sliced bread. Love it!!!

One of my Christmas gifts this year was a gift certificate to Amazon. I loooove gift certificates…

One of the things I bought with it was a CD by a group called Thievery Corporation (Mirror Conspiracy). I’ve been trying to come up with a “If you like so and so, you’ll like this CD” type comparison, to no avail. I’m just not that keen on my musical genre labels since I like such a wide variety of styles. Anyway, it’s swishy swirly synthesizer-heavy music, eminently suitable for background music at home or piping into your headphones when you need some mental space at work.

Back From Maui

We left for Maui on December 30th and got back late last night. Needless to say, I didn’t want to come home. I’ve decided my new goal in life is to move to Hawaii and sell goat’s milk soap to the tourists. Or something like that…

I bought a great CD while I was there: Kapena is the name of the band and the cd is called Hawaiian Legacy. I think you can buy it from their website. Anyway, it’s excellent. We kept a journal of sorts, so I’ll be posting bits from it with photos in a few days.

We went to see Ani DiFranco tonight in Portland. The show was freakin’ amazing!!! Ani always, always knocks my socks off when we see her live. Last time she was with a band, all jazzy and funk. This show was solo, just her and a guitar. Each song was still as dynamic and amazing as when she has a band. Wow!! If you ever get a chance to see her live, GO!! Do it!

Also, I highly recommend her CD “So Much Shouting, So Much Laughter.” It’s a live CD from this last year, and is almost as good as being there. We heard her do the anti-war poem tonight, and it brought the house down. I sure do love Ani.

Her opening act was a woman I’d never heard of before–Toshi Reagon. She also totally knocked my socks off! Please buy one of her CDs. “Toshi” is the most recent, and contains some of the songs she played tonight. She is also beyond amazing, and can sing the heck out of a song.

In honor of Halloween, I wore a cool feather mask. Didn’t I feel special…*grin*

Whew. Bedtime.
