Job, Schmob

So today is my last day at my job. Well, boo-rah to them. I have an interview on Monday for a job that pays more, so there. Hopefully I’ll get it…*crossing fingers*

This weekend I am going to do something fun. I don’t know what yet, but it’s going to be fun. I decree it so. *grin*

What do you do when a bunch of your friends have their panties in a bunch over a she-said/she-said type of incident? Ignore it? Pretend like nothing is happening? I just don’t know. I hate it when stuff like this happens.

Happy Friday.

It seems I have been having some trouble updating recently. It just seems like I get so busy doing other things and then I forget. Added to the fact that I’m so TIRED all the time. What is UP with that?? So frustrating.

My soaping is still coming along. I think I’m actually going to try to make a business out of this :) I have serious aspirations as a small business owner, and this could be a way to start out really small, *grin*. So, very soon now Soap Dreams will be born. I’m making logos and making soap.

I did end up buying four books at Powells, but I couldn’t help it. I love to read cat detective mysteries (think Lillian Jackson Braun’s Cat Who series), and I’m rapidly running out of books by Rita Mae Brown (Mrs. Murphy books). But there are other authors out there, so I bought two new authors at Powells. I hope they’re as good :)

This is my last week at my campus job, and nothing new is on the horizon. Sigh. More time for soaping…:)

Brain Break

Wow, it’s been rather busy. Yesterday, I tabled at Eugene Pride for NARAL. It went really well, only one person who yelled at us, and I don’t think it was because she wasn’t pro-choice. I think she just had issues and decided to unload on us.

The day before, I went to Eugene with my mom and siblings. Much fun was had by all. We went shopping too, and I got some new clothes…mmmm. I love new clothes, especially pretty ones.

Today, we are going to Portland with my cousin. We’re going to Powell’s Bookstore where I shall endeavor not to spend any money. I’m spending myself into a corner with my soap and I can’t sell any of it for at least four weeks…but I’ve applied to be a vendor at a local renaissance faire. I think that would be such fun, especially if my mom will come with me. We can make our dresses and go play :)

Have a good Sunday!

Today, I was canned from my regular job. “Budget Cuts.” Argh. And the stupid jerks waited so long to tell me that all the jobs that were available on campus are now filled. If they’d told me two weeks ago…

So, I am there until the end of June (didn’t even give me two weeks notice!), and then I’m gone. At least I still have my internship, so I’m not totally sunk, but that extra money was really helping out. I was totally depressed about it this afternoon, but now I’m resigned. More time to make soap, I say.

But, if anyone wants to hire me to do office work, take portraits, design a website, or make special soap, just let me know. *wink*

In other news, my soap from yesterday looks good! If it’s solid enough to unmold, I’ll slice it into bars tonight. Whee! This is too much fun. DH thinks it’s cool that I have found something fun to do, and it’s even better if I can sell it. I’m seriously scouting for Holiday Markets and I’m considering Saturday Markets as well. It’d be great to make a little money at this.

Today I made soap :)

First, I scoured TWO Goodwill Stores for equipment, sprung for a digital scale, bought oils, and fats, and lye, and goatmilk, and lugged it all home. Next, I spread everything out, measured, melted, poured, stirred, and otherwise kept myself busy for the better part of an hour making fun chemical reactions.

Finally, there is a shoebox of soap curing in my bathroom. Woohoo!

Some thoughts…a little web research revealed that it is normal for goatmilk to turn bright orange when the lye is added. Whew. It is also normal for it to stink to the gods for the first few days. Whew (and pee-yew!). Tomorrow, I think we will attempt to fragrance a batch :)

Great find of the day: Ginger Preserves. Where have the British been hiding these all these years?? That stuff is truly delectable. The lamb recipe it was purchased for is still too lamby for my taste, but I could eat those preserves straight from the jar. Must practice restraint…
