My shoulders and pain go way back. In high school, I was on the swim team. I was almost always the slowest person on the team, but whatever. It was fun. However, for some reason my shoulders didn’t like swimming and I developed tendonitis in both of them. Ouch. A sensible person would have quit the swim team. I scarfed ibuprofen and kept going.
In college, I developed this pain in my back, right around the shoulder blade, that would send pain up to the top of the shoulder and down my left arm a ways. It comes and goes and massage helps a lot. I have yet to get a diagnosis on what causes it, but my postural habits have adjusted to trying to alleviate the pain and so I have what amounts to a permanent head tilt, according to my massage therapist. If I’m thinking about it, I’ll hold my head straight, but habits are habits. I get a massage regularly now, so this one is a lot better and almost never bothers me anymore.
But the shoulders… the shoulder joint is one of the most vulnerable due to its complexity, and thus is prone to injury. Reaching behind you to grab something from the backseat is a good way to injure it, and it’s exactly what I’ve done this time. Diagnosis: tendonitis with some rotator cuff injury. Result: OUCH!!!!! No lifting, no reaching, apply ice, takes lots of ibuprofen, and best of all… vicodin to take before bed so I can sleep at night. I wake up multiple times at night when I roll over in my sleep and !(@*#&^$!! says my shoulder. I wake up in agony, not well rested, very cranky. It’ll be two to three weeks for it to heal entirely, and I promise not to reach behind me anymore. Bleh.
I blame Betsy. I’ve discovered Last.FM and it is awe-inspiring. My username is oregonclaire, if anyone is interested in my particular musical tastes… although I’m just getting started, so I guess my list is thin…
Updated to add: this is the coolest thing since sliced bread. Love it!!!
I know, I always seem to catch the end of “what’s new and cool” but I still think this is funny enough to dedicate a blog post to it.
Go Fug Yourself: a blog dedicated to fashion mistakes of the rich and famous (and occasionally the not-as-famous).
Every once in a while I see a photo of some celebrity type and think “Why God is this person famous?” Actually, I think that a lot after seeing movies with some of these people or hearing their songs…
Anyway, it’s good for a snark. I may not be famous, but at least I can dress myself without looking like a train wreck.
That last post is supposed to be mine.
Lion Brand has some cool new crochet flower patterns on their website. I particularly like the Open Rose pattern, although the Glittery Little Flower is cute too. Crochet flowers are excellent if you’re like me and sometimes want to play with yarn without a commitment. I can make one of these in half an hour or less, and they are fun to turn into hair decorations or pins for your favorite girl or for yourself.
In new yarns, the Lion Suede looks fabulous. Joann Fabric has some new yarns in their Sensations line, but I don’t know how often I’ll buy their stuff anymore. Joann discontinued (as far as I can tell) all the yarns they introduced last winter, and that stinks. I still have an unfinished project that I’ll probably end up trying to turn into something else because I can’t get the yarn anymore. Super stinky.
I don’t know what I’d make with it, but I’m totally lusting after this Radiance Wave yarn from Knit Picks. It’s an alpaca/silk blend and I’m sure it just defines luxury.
