Dashing Through The Day

What to do? Keep busy! Yesterday I did laundry, last night I cooked real food, the ironing board got cleaned off (a major accomplishment), more real food was cooked tonight… A soap order was sent off the same day it was placed (yes!), brochures were printed… my website has been updated, with a place for folks to sign up for the newsletter. Lots of pictures of new soaps were taken, although I still have to create pages for the new soaps and upload the whole mess.

A job interview was done, and I wasn’t impressed.

And it’s only Tuesday.

Tomorrow is “Making Soap Day” at the workshop, and Thursday is “Go Visit My Shrink” day and Friday is “Have Lunch with your Jafra Buddy” day. More work will of course fill up the crevices in those days. I need to go to the gym and get some exercise in too.

This is good. I’m feeling good.

A Turning Point

Today was the last day at my job, almost exactly 10 months to the day since I started. I’m not going to do a post-mortem here, since I think that’s one of those things better left off-line for the time being. It’ll make great stories some day, so stick around.

Needless to say, the last four weeks, and particularly the last two weeks, have been a roller-coaster ride of emotion and thoughts. I’ve been at “I am SUCH an IDIOT” and “This is the smartest thing I’ve done in a long time” and all points inbetween. I’m currently more at the “pat myself on the back, I’m a genius” point right now, but give it time.

I’ve discovered a really cool website where I can set up e-newsletters for my businesses. Everything I’ve read points to opt-in newsletters being really cool business tools for increasing traffic and sales to my websites. I’m setting up one for my soap website, and one for my Jafra customers as well. Both newsletters are looking pretty darn spiffy, so after a little more testing I’ll be ready to launch them.

It’s a turning point. I really have NO idea what I’m doing here, except that it feels right. Crazy (we’re in debt up to our eyeballs), somewhat in defiance of common sense, but also exhilarating, liberating, and downright exciting. Whatever I do, whatever job I find next, I plan on paying better attention to my intuition, to those little antennae that said “This isn’t quite right” when I started the job I just left. I ignored my inner voice, told it to pipe down, don’t ruin this opportunity. I won’t do that again, if I can help it.

Anyway, buckle your seatbelts. I sure have. I have plans and I have the will to make them happen…

Random Spelling Rant

It’s piqued, not peeked or peaked.

Gimpy Fun

I’ve been having fun with The Gimp. I took this great shot of a small white church down on the coast of Maui, viewed from above, on this ridge above the Highway to Hana. For some reason, the picture came out kind of funky – the trees didn’t have as much detail as I was expecting, and the church was much too bright. In black and white photography, I would say the whites were blown out. Anyway, I had some fun running the picture through the Gimp’s various “artistic” filters and came up with some cool results.

Sudsy Love

Yesterday was a good day. (Not that today was bad.) My soap workshop (otherwise known as Sudsy) was really a mess. I am not the most tidy person in the world. I have a tendency to leave stuff piled around, stacked up, left out, or in a general state of disarray.

DH moved in my last cabinet out of storage, so now I really have no excuse. We set up my fax machine also, so I can accept faxes now. I bought a desktop organizer at Fred Meyer and now all my sheets of labels, and receipts are neatly sorted. The last cabinet is home to my Jafra business supplies and other stuff that should stay protected, because it has doors on it. I dug out my business card stock and finally updated my business cards with my new cell phone number and my fax number and address… my business cards were terribly out of date! Now I just need some for the Jafra side and I’ll be set.

At any rate, the workshop looks freakin’ fantastic and I’m not embarrassed to have guests. My dad is in town for a conference and I showed him. He thought it looked great.
